 | Wir sprachen mit Dennis Higgs und Glenn Catchpole von Uranerz über deren Pläne für 2010 und die zukünftige Entwicklung einer der aussichtsreichsten Uran-Firmen weltweit. Glenn, im Dezember 2009 erhielt Uranerz Energy einen Vorbescheid des so genannten Environmental Impact Statements für das Nichols Ranch Uran-Projekt. Welche weiteren Genehmigungen fehlen Ihnen noch auf dem Weg zu Ihrer ersten ISR-Mine? | We spoke with Dennis Higgs and Glenn Catchpole from Uranerz about their plans for 2010 and the future development of one of the most promising uranium exploration companies. Glenn, in December 2009 Uranerz Energy achieved a draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Company's Nichols Ranch ISR Uranium Project in Campbell and Johnson Counties, Wyoming, U.S.A. What other permissions are still missing on the way to your first ISR-field? |
| GC: Das Environmental Impact Statement ist ein Teil der so genannten Source Material Licence. Der Vorbescheid des Environmental Impact Statements belegt, dass die Nuclear Regulatory Commission keinen Grund darin sieht, eine Produktionslizenz nicht zu erteilen. Der nun vorliegende Bescheid besitzt eine so genannte Kommentierungsperiode, die am 3. März 2010 endet. Während dieser Zeitspanne kann jeder Kommentare an die Nuclear Regulatory Commission einreichen. Danach muss die Nuclear Regulatory Commission Stellung zu den Einwürfen nehmen und ein endgültiges Environmental Impact Statement ausstellen. Wir rechnen damit, dass dieses auch positiv ausfallen und im April oder Mai veröffentlicht werden wird. 60 bis 90 Tage später wird dann normalerweise die Source Material Licence, eine der wichtigsten Lizenzen erteilt. Darüber hinaus benötigen wir eine Einschätzung von der Umweltbehörde Wyomings, die etwa zur selben Zeit wie die föderale Lizenz erteilt werden wird. Der gesamte ISR-Mining-Prozess benötigt eine Menge an Schreibarbeit, ist allerdings auch ein sehr geradliniger und genau festgelegter Prozess. Neben diesen beiden großen Lizenzen benötigen wir einige kleinere, wie etwa zur Luftqualität, die wir bereits haben und eine Genehmigung um tiefe Förderschächte bohren zu dürfen. Diese ist nahezu fertiggestellt und dürfte in den nächsten 4 bis 6 Wochen vorgelegt werden. All diese kleineren Lizenzen sind reine Routine. | GC: The Environmental Impact Statement is one part of the so-called Source Material License. The draft Environmental Impact Statement stated that the NRC sees no reason why a License should not be granted. In the process the draft has a comment period which closes on March 3rd. During this comment period anybody can send in comments to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. After that the NRC has to address these comments and to issue a final Environmental Impact Statement, which they will do in April or May. We anticipate that it will also be positive. 60 to 90 days later they normally issue the Source Material License, one of the major Licenses. We will also need a statement from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality which should be issued at about the same time as the federal License. The ISR-mining licensing process needs a lot of data, but it is a well established and clearly defined process. These are the two major Licenses we need. Some minor ones that we need are the Air Quality permit which we already got and a deep disposal well permit which is in the final process of being prepared and should be submitted within the coming 4-6 weeks. Another one is an underground injection control permit, but these minor ones are all routine. |

Welchen Effekt könnte dieses Programm auf einen zukünftigen Uran-Produzenten wie Uranerz Energy haben? GC: Dieses Programm kann unseren Genehmigungsprozess nicht signifikant beeinflussen. Nichts desto trotz sind diese Bürgschaftsgarantien für die gesamte Uran-Industrie natürlich eine gute Sache. Wir werden den Bau einiger neuer Reaktoren in den nächsten Jahren miterleben können, einen Effekt auf unseren Genehmigungsprozess dürfte dies aber nicht haben. Eventuell könnten die notwendigen Überprüfungen mittels mehr Personals in den Behörden beschleunigt werden. | The US-government will support the construction of nuclear power plants with guarantees of 54 billion USD. What effect could this have on Uranerz Energy as a uranium producer? GC: This program cannot advance our permitting process significantly. It is very good for our industry overall to have these long guarantees. We will see a few new reactors been built in the next couple of years, but this will not have a significant effect on our permitting process. Theses processes are all in place. There could only be some emphasize in terms of speeding up the reviews by hiring more staff within the departments. |
